Not to be confused with the nearby town of Cocoa, Florida, Cocoa Beach is just sixteen miles north of Melbourne and about 115 miles east of Tampa. First settled by a freed family of slaves after the end of the Civil War, Cocoa Beach was established as an official Florida city by Gus Edwards in 1925 and incorporated in 1957. There is a six-mile stretch of shore in Cocoa Beach filled with a wide array of eateries and attractions. Every Thanksgiving weekend, there is a Space Coast Art festival that’s one of the most highly anticipated events in Brevard County. If you love our nation’s history and the military, there are many historical and educational exhibits around Cocoa Beach, Cape Canaveral, and the Kennedy Space Center.
